Who is the best jiu jitsu practitioner

Once again, with so many fighters out there it is hard to pinpoint the GOATs. So, we had to turn to all our criteria once again. One more name that I somehow think is going to divide people. See what I said about the criteria. When it comes to the finer half of BJJ, Beatriz Mesquita is one of the toughest competitors to ever grace the mats. Still, she will certainly be back on the mats before we even notice her missing. One of the most entertaining grapplers to watch ever, including male grapplers.

The two have met under just about any rulest possible, and Bia is the winner of most of those encounters. At only 23 years of age and a black belt since , Bianca is certainly going to stay on this list for years to come. If there is a grappler that has been on a hot streak lately, it has to be Ffion Davies. She is as entertaining and as aggressive as grapplers can get. So far, Ffion has only been a black belt for less than a year, and she is already an ADCC silver medalist.

Similar to Bianca Basilio, she is still young at only 24 and has a stellar career in front of her. Still, she has been so active lately, particularly at the submission-only scene that she is already one of the best BJJ fighters of modern times.

She is the ultimate heavyweight female world champion, holding a staggering 4 ADCC titles which is a historical feat. Moreover, she has 6 World titles in the Gi as well as 6 Pans titles. Abu Dhabi, European, and Brazilian Nationals gold medals are also a part of her trophy collection. Plus, she has one of the most impressively technical games.

That makes it easy to deal with just about anyone that stands across from her on the mats. There she is. Still, when it comes to grappling she did anything there is, including beating the much heavier Gabi Garcia. However, her title count is too big to list here. Dern is 26 years of age and she is certainly going to come back to grappling at a certain point.

She does have an ADCC title over Mackenzie, but she has been dormant in the big competition scene for a while now. Never shy to test herself in the absolute, Nicolini is behind some of the most attractive matches in BJJ history. While she certainly has done more than enough to earn a spot among the best BJJ fighters of all time, she is someone we hope to see back on the mats sooner rather than later.

She has an exciting style, very submission-heavy and based around armbars, for the most part. From World titles, through multiple Pans titles to the European championships, Gezary has them all. A black belt since she is one of the toughest female competitors out there. A super fight, perhaps? Luiza is one of those grapplers that enjoys a legendary status probably as much as Marcelo Garcia does among the male Jiu-Jiteros. The thing about her is that she is still active, her most recent accolade coming at the Europeans in the form of a gold medal.

Plus she has the perfect balance of Gi and No-Gi world titles, as well as plenty of gold at the Brazilian Nationals and Pans. A Cavaca black belt since her decade-long competition experience at the level is undoubtedly one of her greatest assets.

We did cover a few brother grappler duos so far. Well, Tammy is a part of a brother-sister duo, that has been wreaking havoc around the globe. Her brother Mikey might not be on the list, for now, but Tammy is undoubtedly one of the very best BJJ fighters in the world. Well, being a world champion in every possible organization is one reason. She is part of history after her final match against Michelle Nicolini at the Mundials. She had the lead, before suffering a broken arm at the hands of Nicolini because she refused to tap.

Oh, and she was only 19 at the time. This Marcelo Garcia black belt has strong claims to raise straight at the top of the best BJJ fighters list in the very near future! With 13 submissions in the UFC, no other fighter has ever submitted as many people as Oliveira has. He was able to submit all those men because of his slick BJJ skills. Despite losing to Max Holloway in their title fight, Ortega is still one of the most fearsome BJJ fighters in his division.

In fact, the UFC measured just how strong Ortega is , and apparently, being choked by Ortega is equal to having a lb man stand on your neck. I have to mention that the given list is not ranked.

I took many factors into consideration, like their UFC and MMA resume, their jiu-jitsu resume, number of wins by submission, percentage of successful submissions, etc.

Also, I made lists similar to this for every martial art. Divison: fought in the UFC when there were no weight classes. Royce competed at the first UFC evens, where he wanted to show that the smaller fighter with good jiu-jitsu skills can handle the bigger fighter.

In the process, he amassed a score of 11 wins and 0 losses. An absolutely astonishing fact is that he finished all of his 11 fights with a submission. Gracie popularized Brazilian jiu-jitsu and revolutionized mixed martial arts with his results contributing to the movement towards grappling and ground fighting in the sport we know today. If there was not for him, today, we might still the vast majority of fights being stand up.

Royce Gracie also holds the record for the longest UFC fight in history. There were no judges back then, so the fight to go to the decision was not an option. After 36 minutes, the fight was stopped and declared a draw. Demian Maia is one of the best grapplers that have ever stepped foot inside the Octagon. There he will look for a submission opening. He prefers to look for the back position and secure a choke submission. A true master of the art.

From his 28 wins, 14 are submissions. He has submission wins using chokes, armbars, and kimuras. Today, he is one of the most dangerous grapplers and submission artists inside the UFC Middleweight and Light Heavyweight divisions. Recently, Tony was one of the most talked-about fighters in the UFC because of his highly anticipated fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Five times over the course of 5 years, these two were set to fight, but every single time, the fight was canceled. We were waiting for a sixth try, which was the most anticipated fight in the history of the UFC, but Justin Gaethje stepped in and messed things up. That kind of training makes Tony incredibly dangerous for his opponents. Pan-Am Champion ADCC Champion , ,, World Champion , , , , Gracie had his first competition when he was 8 years old and received his black belt just before he was 18 rules were bent a little for him.

In , Royce participated in UFC - bringing a winning intensity to the sport. In a staggeringly short amount of time, Maia graduated to black belt in under five years and was training two to three times per day.

After participating in minor shows, Maia entered into the big leagues: UFC, where he had a fantastic run. ADCC 2nd Place It may seem cliche to say, but these greats have all made BJJ a lifestyle. BJJ was and is not simply a part of life - it is life. These greats all had a moment where they decided that they were going to dedicate a massive part of their time, passion, and energy to the sport of BJJ. And their dedication certainly paid off.

These greats were no exception in needing to figure out their style. They used their style to their advantage to keep things fun and intense. Lots of the heart and passion of BJJ comes through having a niche. Many of these greats have been influential in making BJJ what it is today and that comes down to using the foundation of BJJ with their personal twist.

It is an individualistic way of highlighting some of the greatest parts of the sport. These greats never really knew limits.
